Annika Rod and Fly
Annika Fly Shop is located on Acme Rd in Brewer,Maine. The Bangor/Brewer area didn’t have much in the way of fly shops prior to Annika opening so I was pretty excited with the news. The shop is small but it’s inventory is anything but.
I was unable to coincide my schedule with the shop hours and felt a little frustrated. I mentioned it to owner Don Corey and he told me to just call him when I needed something and he would go to the shop and open for me. Now that is service.
When I finally made it to the shop and I was amazed at the amount of material they had. They have a large selection of the modern materials I use for tying musky flies, which can be hard to find. Whether you’re tying musky flies, poppers, dries or streamers, Annika has what you need.

Who Are They
Annika Rod and Fly started out as a hobby in 2000 in the basement of my Holden home. The name came from my 2 daughters, Anna and Erika. The “shop”, a 12’ x 14’ room in my basement, was referred to as the Dry Fly Clubhouse. Basically it was a room where buddies gathered to tie flies and share fishing stories. I ordered “stuff” for my buddies and began “collecting” materials.

After building my first rod back in the late 80’s, I started helping/teaching friends to build custom fly rods. Over time I started sharing my passion for rod building with others. At this same time, I was helping teach a beginners fly tying course with the Sunkhaze Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Over the years the hobby became a hobby on steroids. It was time to poop or get off the pot. So I pooped!
In the fall of 2011, Annika Rod and Fly moved out of the basement and took over the 24’x24’ garage. It was now an official brick and mortar shop. The shop was open 2 evenings during the week and Saturdays. A few life changing events necessitated some changes and the shop closed in 2013.

The fly shop bug never left me and in the summer of 2016, Annika Rod and Fly re-opened in a 160 sq foot “cozy” space on N Main St in Brewer. It became apparent early on that more space was needed and the next and final move was to 12 Acme Rd in Brewer on Memorial weekend of 2017. The current location is 800 sq feet of retail space including a rod building room and a class area with video equipment and large screen televisions to enhance the learning experience.
